Online event: The role of regions and cities in supporting apprenticeships, upskilling and reskilling in the health sector

On 23 March at 10:30 CET, the European Alliance for Apprenticeships (EAfA) and the Committee of the Regions (CoR) will hold the online event ‘Supporting apprenticeships, upskilling and reskilling in the health sector: The role of regions and cities’. This is the last of a series of three events, leading up to a high-level event that will take place in June 2021.

The joint event will focus on the role of cities and regions in supporting apprenticeships in the health sector. Participants will explore local and regional initiatives for training, upskilling and reskilling health workers, taking into account the future skill needs of the sector.

Additionally, Mr Rikardo Lamadrid from the Department for Education of the Basque Government will introduce concrete actions concerning the medical and health supply, while a vocational education and training (VET) teacher and an apprentice will share their hands-on experience in this area and the challenges they have come across.

The event will be chaired by Ilias Lievanos from Cedefop’s Department for Skills and Labour Market, and moderated by Sandra Parthie of the German Economic Institute.

The following guests will participate in the panel discussion:

  • Birgitta Sacrédeus, Regional Councillor and Member of the Dalarna Regional Board, Sweden
  • Karin Reiber, Professor of Nursing Education, Esslingen University of Applied Sciences, Germany
  • Maria Pascual Garcia, Head of Unit of International Projects for VET, Regional Ministry of Education of the Government of Catalonia, Spain
  • Romy Karier, Councillor at the Municipality of Clervaux, Luxembourg, and Member of CoR since 2019

The event is organised in close cooperation with the European Association of Regional and Local Authorities for Lifelong Learning, the German delegation at the CoR, and the Basque Government.
