COMMISSION IMPLEMENTING DECISION

of 12.8.2022

setting out the multi-annual strategy document with regard to external cross-border cooperation programmes supported by the European Regional Development Fund and the Neighbourhood, Development and International Cooperation Instrument - Global Europe and transnational cooperation programmes supported by these funds and the Instrument for Pre-Accession III

Interreg NEXT will support cooperation between border regions in EU MS[1] and the partner countries and territories[2] in the Neighbourhood area. It will be implemented in shared management and will cover cross-border cooperation (CBC) as well as transnational cooperation programmes.

Added value of Interreg NEXT

The essential value-added is the governance model, involving stakeholders and beneficiaries from both EU and non-EU countries on equal footing. It will support people-to-people exchanges at regional and local level, and enable cooperation which would have otherwise not existed or which would have faced difficulties for political reasons.

For Interreg NEXT CBC programmes the NDICI-GE funds shall be at least equivalent to the ERDF while for the Interreg NEXT transnational programmes the NDICI part of the funding should reflect the composition of the programmes´ partnership.

This document covers as well the participation of partner countries in the Interreg Danube transnational programme.
