Lukeloki is used for Luke’s research purposes, to gain valuable food waste data from the nation’s food services. Hospitality businesses and public catering operators can participate in a FW monitoring period with the easy-to-use app. A demand for an English-speaking version surfaced from the trade, due to its increasingly multilingual workforce. And, as Luke is widely networked with the FW thematic internationally, resources in English enable more fluent information exchange.
In exchange for a cost-free monitoring period, participating organisation will let Luke use their anonymised FW data for research. The app generates comprehensive Excel reports (e.g. FW across food categories, percentages, per customer, etc. indices). It also allows keeping track of Euros lost via FW, and edible food donated to charity. Researchers can share the participant some best practices, gathered from Luke’s fifteen years of expertise into mitigating food waste. The online tool can be subscribed long-term for a monthly fee.
Using Lukeloki offers food service operators an accessible model for reducing their FW and redirecting still edible food for human use. The sector’s post-pandemic operating environment is notoriously stringent across the Continent, and mitigating FW with real-time data offers organisations clear-cut savings in resources, such as ingredients, labour, and energy. This supports both the business and regional sustainability targets, while offering tangible benefits for participating organisations, in line with EU’s 2030 food waste targets.
Luke is a Finnish governmental research organisation, promoting sustainable use and business of renewable natural resources.
