The publication Food waste in Sweden 2022 (Livsmedelsavfall i Sverige 2022) is published by the Swedish Environmental Protection Agency. It is based primarily on statistics produced for reporting to EU. The report presents food waste generated in Sweden 2022, broken down by the different stages of the food supply chain. It also describes the changes that have taken place in recent years. Approximately 1.2 million tonnes of solid food waste were generated in Sweden in 2022, which is 117 kg per person. Including food and drinks poured down the drain in households, 1.4 million tonnes were generated. The trend continues to indicate that households are throwing away less food. A new, improved survey of the food industry shows that more food waste is generated than previous surveys have shown.
