EUFIC PAN EU food waste consumer survey

This survey examined 500 households each in Austria, Denmark, France, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Poland and Slovenia. We found that across the 8 member states, those who reported throwing away more food more frequently tended to be younger adults, males, from larger households, more frequently dining out for dinner, those who would rather buy and prepare too much than just enough food, those who prioritise cosmetically perfect produce, those who are less developed in their food-related planning skills and being able to judge if food is still edible. However, there were some cultural differences between the countries that support the need for nationally-tailored food waste campaigns.
