The aim of the Dialogue forum was to work with wholesalers and retailers in Germany to monitor food waste in their area of responsibility and reduce it through effective measures. As part of a declaration of participation, the companies recorded meaningful data, cooperated with social institutions for redistribution and implemented further reduction measures of their own choosing in their markets and at the interfaces to upstream and downstream areas. These successes are to be consolidated by means of a voluntary agreement.

A two-page document summarizes the key recommendations of the dialog forum to practitioners. Experience has shown that the following factors are relevant for an effective food waste reduction: Collaboration, opportunities for exchange, trust, reliability, transparency, and institutional accompaniment.
