Since 2019, the authors of the book “Zéro gaspi!” (“Zero Food Waste”) ed. Larousse, have been organizing the program “Maman Zéro gaspi!” (“Zero Food Waste Moms”), for the benefit of users of food aid in the Wallonia-Brussels Federation in Belgium. The principle consists in building a reflection with the participants on the place and the stakes of food, starting from the question of food waste.
The educational program is aimed primarily at citizens from working-class backgrounds (in particular single-parent women in precarious situations), with a view of changing behaviors (linked in this case to dietary practices). The priority audience is made up of recipients of food aid, and patients of medical centers active in health promotion.
To support their approach over the three months and over the longer term, each participant receives a copy of the book “JUST KEEP IT: les recettes #Zerogaspi” at the start of the program. This educational support provides them with the keys to eating healthy, waste-free and low-budget food on a daily basis. Participants who wish to do so also have access to the free “JUST KEEP IT” application, a shopping list which includes 4 different meals each week, directly linked to the recipe book.
