Vouchers for innovations against food waste in the Netherlands

The Food Waste Free United foundation, the Dutch Ministry of Agriculture, Rabobank, and the Dutch Regional Development Agencies together are issuing vouchers to stimulate innovations against food wastage. Companies can use a voucher to engage experts, develop a business case or scale up an innovation to production level. The voucher reimburses half of the costs of the project, the other half is contributed by the company itself.

These companies recently received a voucher:

  • NoPalm Ingredients develops a sustainable alternative to palm oil. The company produces, through a fermentation process, an edible microbial oil from residual streams, such as sugar beet leaves, rejected vegetables and brewers’ grain.
  • OneThird has developed a scanner to determine the ripeness of avocados and plans to test its deployment on the store floor.
  • Health Food Wall offers a fresh, healthy, ready-to-eat assortment out-of-home through "Intelligent Fridges". The company is developing a data-driven and software-based strategy to further reduce food waste in these vending machines.
