Negotiations on the future European Territorial Cooperation (Interreg) are under way in the European Parliament and in the Council. Here is the state of play in the institutions and the 2019 timeline.

REGARDDONS is dedicated to the integration of young visually impaired people living in this cross-border area

 
ESIF Open Data Recent developments – December 2018

The new dataset on financial instruments implementation was refreshed to show the cumulative financial implementation until end 2017. By the end of 2017, total contributions committed to FIs had reached nearly EUR 18.8 billion, involving 24 Member States and including EUR 14.2 billion of ESI Funds. This is a significant increase on the EUR 13.3 billion reported at the end of 2016.

 
Enhancing Healthcare Cooperation in Cross-Border regions: REGISTER NOW!

On 4 December 2018, the European Commission is organising a large event in Brussels to address healthcare cooperation topics in border regions. The conference will analyse both obstacles to and success factors for effective cooperation and investment in this area. Good practices and practical tools will be also discussed. Training module on Public Procurement for ESIF authorities - REGISTRATION IS OPEN

We are pleased to announce the opening of the registration for the training on "Key changes in public procurement directives & strategic procurement (innovative, green & socially responsible procurement)". The training is designed for participants from ESIF managing authorities, intermediate bodies and audit authorities, and is provided free of charge. Authorities in each Member State are kindly invited to nominate technical level experts to participate in the training. Participants have to cover their own travel and accommodation costs. Youth4Regions: young journalists report on the #EURegionsWeek

21 young journalists and bloggers took part in this year’s edition of the Youth4Regions programme. Their enthusiasm contributed to the making of what is considered to be as the most successful EU Regions’ Week to date. After a 4 days in the shoes of a journalist covering EU affairs, the 21 discussed their efforts with European Commissioner Corina Creţu. Debate on Future of Europe continues

At the European Committee of the Regions Plenary Session during the #EURegionsWeek, the CoR opinion on Reflecting on Europe: the voice of local and regional authorities on how to rebuild trust in the EU, as requested by European Council President Donald Tusk, was adopted. The report is the culmination of a two-year long campaign reaching out to more than 40 000 citizens and 266 local and regional authorities. To further contribute to the ongoing political debate on the future of the European Union, the CoR's 8th European Summit of Regions and Cities will be held on 14-15 March 2019 in Bucharest. The Summit will be the largest political gathering of mayors, regional presidents and local leaders from across Europe next year, with more than 800 participants expected to participate, including top leaders of the EU institutions.

 
A great social media success!

This edition was a great success in terms of social media: #EURegionsWeek was mentioned nearly 14 000 times during the week earning 80 238 087 impressions. It more than doubled its reach and almost doubled its engagement on the social media channels compared to previous years. Several related hashtags, like #CohesionPolicy, #EU, #futureofeurope, #healthinallregions, #sotreg and #regiostars, benefited from its visibility.

 
Watch for the #EURegionsWeek 2018 online reporting

The European Committee of the Regions and the European Commission's DG for regional and urban policy are currently at work preparing a full online reporting of all sessions that took place during the event. Session organisers have until the 26 October to send their session reports using the online system. If you are a session organiser and you have not yet received the guidelines, please contact the #EURegionsWeek team at the European Committee of the Regions.

The numbers behind the success of this edition

The 16th European Week of Regions and Cities gathered 6700 participants and over 800 speakers from all over Europe. 212 sessions, visits, and networking events took place to explore and share best practices on how regions and cities can work together for a stronger cohesion policy. Panorama 66: Lithuania, building a smarter future

The Autumn issue of Panorama magazine is now available to download, and it covers a wide range of topics from urban issues to international cooperation and energy policy. Our country focus this time is on Lithuania. In our interview Vilius Šapoka, Minister of Finance, explains how Lithuania has used EU funding to enhance his country’s competitiveness and productivity through investment in business development. This is illustrated with detailed profiles of five new projects. Captured on Camera explores projects funded in the German region of Rhineland-Palatinate. We look at how cohesion policy is supporting sustainable energy and a low-carbon society, our strategic partnerships with cities around the world through the International Urban Cooperation programme, and highlight the results of a recent report into doing business in Croatia, the Czech Republic, Portugal and Slovakia.

 
Commission grants 22 cities with funding for innovative projects

The Commission has announced the winning cities of the 3rd call for projects under the Urban Innovative Actions. €92 million from the European Regional Development Fund will finance innovative solutions to urban challenges such as air quality, climate change, housing, and jobs and skills for the local economy. Today, the Commission also launches the 4th call under the Urban Innovative Actions. €100 million is now available to cities to finance innovative projects to protect and reduce the vulnerability of public spaces, as announced in the 2017 Action Plan under the European Agenda on Security. The call will also finance digital, environmental and inclusion projects.
