IN-4-AHA Final Conference RECAP (16/12/2022)

After two years of hard work and collaboration by the IN-4-AHA project consortium partners, Cluster Saúde de Galicia, Civitta, Praxis, EIT Health Scandinavia, Proud Engineers, XAMK, University of Porto Competence Center for Healthy and Active Ageing Porto4Ageing, SIH EEIG – Slovenian Innovation Hub, and EUREGHA – European Regional and Local Health Authorities, under the guiding leadership of Tehnopol, our project comes to an end. We celebrated our achievements during the final conference on 7 December. The event took place at the Arvo Pärt Centre in idyllic Laulasmaa, Estonia, and was streamed online so people from all over Europe could join. The whole conference was moderated by Tjaša Zajc.

The 2023-2024 work programme of Horizon Europe is out! (13/12/2022)

The Commission has adopted today the main Horizon Europe work programme 2023-24, with around €13.5 billion to support researchers and innovators in Europe to pursue breakthrough solutions for environmental, energy, digital and geopolitical challenges. As part of the broader EU €95.5 billion research and innovation programme, Horizon Europe, this funding will contribute to the EU reaching its climate goals, increasing energy resilience, and developing core digital technologies. It will also address targeted actions to support Ukraine, boost economic resilience and contribute to a sustainable recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic. It will help to achieve a stronger European research and innovation ecosystem, including through wider participation of researchers and innovators across Europe, greater mobility and funding for world class research infrastructures.

Council of the EU adopts recommendations on long term care (16/12/2022)

On 8 December, the Employment, Social Policy, Health and Consumer Affairs Council (EPSCO) adopted a recommendation on long-term care in the EU. The recommendation was made as part of the European Commission’s European Care Strategy, which also included a recommendation on early years care and education. The Commission recommends that Member States draw up national action plans to make care in the EU more available and accessible, as well as improving the quality.

ITGALL, the Living Lab network managed by CSG (11/11/2022)

ITGALL is the Living Lab network managed by the Galician Health Cluster (Cluster Saúde de Galicia, CSG) that includes several living labs, which are spread all over the region of Galicia, Spain. The network was established as a result of the European-funded project IN-4-AHA, where living labs were used to test tech/digital solutions in the context of active and healthy aging. Dementia Inclusive Hospitals from a Universal Design Approach - Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) (11/11/2022)

Researchers from Trinity College, in partnership with Tallaght University Hospital, Hospital Clínic de Barcelona and HOPE the European Hospital and Healthcare Federation, have developed a Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) focusing on dementia-friendly hospital design. The MOOC guides health professionals and others in the design of a hospital experience that supports the needs of dementia patients.

Population ageing and health financing: A method for forecasting two sides of the same coin - New article and tool (11/11/2022)

To better understand the implications of population ageing for health financing and to identify policy options, the European Observatory, together with the WHO Kobe Centre, developed the Population Ageing financial Sustainability gap for Health systems (or alternatively, the PASH) Simulator tool. The PASH Simulator tool allows a user to see how both health expenditures and health revenues are expected to change through the end of the century due to changes in population age-structure across a wide range of countries.

Social, Technological and Health Innovation: Opportunities and Limitations for Social Policy, Health Policy, and Environmental Policy (15/11/2022)

This Research Topic focuses on both strengths and weaknesses of social innovation, technological innovation, and health innovation that are increasingly recognized as crucial concepts related to the formulation of responses to the social, health, and environmental challenges. Developing the Silver Economy and Related Government Resources for Seniors: A Position Paper (18/11/2022)

The precarious rights of senior citizens, especially those who are highly educated and who are expected to counsel and guide the younger generations, has stimulated the creation internationally of advocacy associations and opinion leader groups. The strength of these groups, however, varies from country to country. In some countries, they are supported and are the focus of intense interest; in others, they are practically ignored. For this is reason we believe that the creation of a network of all these associations is essential. The proposed network would act as a support for the already-existing policies of the United Nations’ High Commission for Human Rights, of independent experts, and of the Global Alliance for the Rights of Older People

Position paper on ethical, legal and social challenges linked to audio- and video-based AAL solutions (18/11/2022)

In this position paper, we have used Alan Cooper’s persona technique to illustrate the utility of audio- and video-based AAL technologies. Therefore, two primary examples of potential audio- and video-based AAL users, Anna and Irakli, serve as reference points for describing salient ethical, legal and social challenges related to use of AAL. These challenges are presented on three levels: individual, societal, and regulatory. For each challenge, a set of policy recommendations is suggested.
