United in diversity: a common challenge

“Diversity is a core value for the EU and uniting in diversity not only reflects empirical observation, it is a commitment at the heart of our work. Language, ethnicity, political affiliation, culture, religion, age: whatever the grounds, we must strive to accept difference and live and work together at the regional, communal and national level.”

With these words by Tiina Astola, director general of DG Justice & Consumers, started this year’s EU Diversity Charters annual forum. It brought together various stakeholders – employers, NGOs, policy makers – for a discussion on how the increasingly diverse European societies could prosper through inclusiveness.
