The TEDAM team has contributed to the 2024 SRIP report published by the European Commission (Directorate-General for Research and Innovation - DG RTD)

Dr Erika Palmer, an expert on systems engineering and member of the engineering faculty at Cornell University in the United States, visited the JRC Sevilla over three days (10-12 June) to advise on the construction of POLYTROPOS, a new system dynamics model for the evaluation of transformative innovation policies. She delivered several seminars to showcase some of her research and specific applications of SD to policy problems from various policy areas, including socio-technical transitions, systems thinking and consultancy work for the US government.

Extreme heat is increasingly dangerous for urban environments. A recent policy brief outlines available strategies, best practices and tools to help local authorities in the EU to address urban heat islands and the consequences of record-breaking temperatures.

The Joint Research Centre’s territorial development team is looking for an economic and policy analyst who will undertake research, analysis and policy anticipation focusing on science, technology and innovation (STI) strategies, with an emphasis on Africa and the EU enlargement and neighbourhood region. Directorates B and E successfully organized a workshop to share projects and insights on key issues related to space, security, defence, innovation, industrial polices and their economic impact. This event on Space and Defense, organized between JRC Directorate B and E, took place online on June 11th. During the workshop participants discussed current geopolitical challenges and their implications for the new priorities of the European Commission. They also shared ongoing projects and initiatives within the organizations. The aim is to continue pushing the boundaries of JRC's science-for-policy impact in the areas of Space and Defense, fostering collaboration and knowledge sharing amongst teams.

JRC B.7 colleagues have participated in the EUSPRI 2024 “Governing Technology, Research, and Innovation for Better Worlds”, held on June 4-7 at the University of Twente, Faculty of Behavioural, Management and Social Sciences in Enschede, The Netherlands.

This event on Space and Defense, organized between JRC Directorate B and E, took place online on June 11th. During the workshop participants discussed current geopolitical challenges and their implications for the new priorities of the European Commission. The workshop on "Transformative place-based innovation and PRI" took place 17th June 2024. The event, jointly organized by the JRC and the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology (RMIT University), focused on learning and sharing experiences regarding the development and implementation of place-based innovations in Europe and Australia, especially in rural areas. The aim was to promote informal communication and exchange of ideas and practices to develop a new perspective on encouraging innovative practices in various local and rural settings worldwide.

The Python Connector to EUROMOD is a newly-created tool that allows users to interact with EUROMOD directly from Python. To provide support and guidance on its use, a technical session will be held on Wednesday 19th of June, 15:00-16:00 CEST. Click on "more" for detailed information.

Vitalija is using EUROMOD at the Lithuanian Ministry of Social Security and Labour.

Salvador Barrios participated to the first workshop organised by the Network on Welfare and Policy in Latin America and the Caribbean (WAPLAC) in San José, Costa Rica, 9-10 May 2024. This two-day conference aimed to take stock of recent research on fiscal and welfare policies, inequality, wellbeing, labour market dynamics, support for democracy, and other social outcomes in LAC.

A three-day EUROMOD training course took place on 15-17 May at JRC-Seville. The course was taught by JRC colleagues Paola De Agostini, Ilda Dreoni, Chrysa Leventi, Andrea Papini and Fidel Picos.
