Seminars on System Dynamics by American academic Erika K. Palmer

Dr Erika Palmer, an expert on systems engineering and member of the engineering faculty at Cornell University in the United States, visited the JRC Sevilla over three days (10-12 June) to advise on the construction of POLYTROPOS, a new system dynamics model for the evaluation of transformative innovation policies. She delivered several seminars to showcase some of her research and specific applications of SD to policy problems from various policy areas, including socio-technical transitions, systems thinking and consultancy work for the US government.

 
Fighting heat extremes in cities

Extreme heat is increasingly dangerous for urban environments. A recent policy brief outlines available strategies, best practices and tools to help local authorities in the EU to address urban heat islands and the consequences of record-breaking temperatures.

Joint Directorates B and E workshop on space, security and defence

Directorates B and E successfully organized a workshop to share projects and insights on key issues related to space, security, defence, innovation, industrial polices and their economic impact. This event on Space and Defense, organized between JRC Directorate B and E, took place online on June 11th. During the workshop participants discussed current geopolitical challenges and their implications for the new priorities of the European Commission. They also shared ongoing projects and initiatives within the organizations. The aim is to continue pushing the boundaries of JRC's science-for-policy impact in the areas of Space and Defense, fostering collaboration and knowledge sharing amongst teams.

 
Workshop on Industry, Defense and Space

This event on Space and Defense, organized between JRC Directorate B and E, took place online on June 11th. During the workshop participants discussed current geopolitical challenges and their implications for the new priorities of the European Commission. They also shared ongoing projects and initiatives within the organizations. The aim is to continue pushing the boundaries of JRC's science-for-policy impact in the areas of Space and Defense, fostering collaboration and knowledge sharing amongst teams.

 
Workshop Transformative place-based innovation and PRI

The workshop on "Transformative place-based innovation and PRI" took place 17th June 2024. The event, jointly organized by the JRC and the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology (RMIT University), focused on learning and sharing experiences regarding the development and implementation of place-based innovations in Europe and Australia, especially in rural areas. The aim was to promote informal communication and exchange of ideas and practices to develop a new perspective on encouraging innovative practices in various local and rural settings worldwide.

 
EUROMOD online session on using EUROMOD from Python
