Commission seeks feedback on revision of criteria for sustainable economic activities
The European Commission is seeking public feedback on draft revisions to the EU Taxonomy’s technical screening criteria. The EU Taxonomy is a classification system created by the European Union to define which economic activities qualify as environmentally sustainable. As a cornerstone of the EU’s sustainable finance framework, it helps investors, companies and policymakers identify and support activities that contribute to sustainable projects. Its ‘technical screening criteria’ define the conditions that economic activities must meet to be considered sustainable.
The proposed changes aim to make the framework simpler and easier to use. The draft revisions streamline language, clarify how to show compliance and reflect recent legislative as well as technological updates. They cover activities under the Climate and Environmental Delegated Acts, including sectors like forestry, manufacturing, energy, transport, construction and environmental protection. The consultation is open until 14 April 2026. The feedback will inform the final revision of the criteria that is planned for adoption by summer 2026.
