Webinar highlights: Exploring nature ambition in sovereign policies and financing strategies
date: 12/02/2026
On 13 November, a webinar focused on ‘Nature ambition in sovereign policies and financing strategies’ was held. This webinar was open to financial institutions and stakeholders interested in advancing sustainability in government debt management and policy-making. The webinar presented new initiatives and guidance available for financial institutions interested in policy governance, the state of nature, and nature-related risk management, e.g. approaches for integrating biodiversity into sovereign debt assessments and aligning debt analysis with sustainability goals.
‘We need to talk about biodiversity’ is a webinar series of the EU Business and Biodiversity Platform, that is co-organised with the Finance for Biodiversity (FfB) Foundation, Principles for Responsible Investment (PRI), and the United Nations Environment Programme Finance Initiative (UNEP FI).
The FfB Foundation also launched its new Sovereign Debt Nature Assessment model, a framework designed to integrate nature-related risks and opportunities into sovereign debt analysis. It also opened a call for public consultation. You can read the full report here.
The discussion highlighted calls from financial institutions for governments to guide sectoral shifts toward nature‑positive outcomes, thereby aligning financial flows with the Global Biodiversity Framework (GBF). If you are interested in learning more about the event, you will find the recording and material from the webinar here.
