IP4.3 – Intersessional Process on SAICM and the sound management of chemicals and waste beyond 2020 | Bonn, 23 - 24 September 2023

The final meeting of the 4th Intersessional Process on the Strategic Approach to International Chemicals Management (SAICM) was held to finalize the preparations and recommendations for the upcoming 5th session of the International Conference on Chemicals Management (ICCM5).

Recommendations from IP4 on draft resolutions for consideration by ICCM 5 concerned:

· Draft framework instrument,

· Draft resolutions from IP 4 to ICCM 5, and

The draft framework instrument contains the proposed elements of the international chemicals management approach, including: vision, scope, principles, objectives and targets, implementation mechanisms, issues of concern, capacity-building, financial considerations, institutional arrangements and the process of taking stock.

The draft resolutions concerned, inter alia, the high-level declaration, the adoption of the framework instrument, implementation arrangements, international cooperation and coordination, a global alliance on highly hazardous chemicals, and a code of conduct on chemicals and waste management.
