World Circular Economy Forum | Helsinki, 30 May - 2 June 2023

The WCEF 2023 conference put nature, youth and finance into the spotlight. Many of the more than 150 speakers emphasised that there are already viable circular solutions out there – now we simply need to scale them up.

The forum included a number of sessions related to improving circularity globally and the Commission was involved in several, including the GACERE-led session on roadmaps and circular economy. All the recordings of sessions can be watch on the WCEF programme page.

The World Circular Economy Forum 2024 will take place next spring in Brussels, Belgium.

GACERE session at WCEF: Circular Economy Strategies and Roadmaps

This year’s WCEF included a parallel session organised by the Global Alliance on Circular Economy and Resource Efficiency (GACERE) focusing on circular economy strategies and roadmaps.

As there is no one-size-fits-all approach to how to develop effective and targeted circular economy strategies, the organisers established a diverse programme with panellists from Mexico, Viet Nam, the European Commission as well as the Global Environment Facility (GEF), who provided insights on their experiences at the subnational, national and regional level.

From the EU side (DG Environment), it was highlighted that financing the circular economy is a challenge and that there are EU-level actions ongoing to address that, from the European Year of Skills, the Skills Agenda and Pact and the various EU-funding programmes increasingly targeting circularity measures.
