UNECE Special Session of the Committee on Environmental Policy (CEP) | Hybrid, Geneva, 9-12 May 2022

The CEP special session was devoted to the preparation of the Ninth Environment for Europe Ministerial Conference scheduled for 5-7 October 2022 in Nicosia; issues of the Environmental Performance Review Programme; and the presentation and exchange of views on the fifth session of the United Nations Environment Assembly of the United Nations Environment Programme.

The decisions of the special session were adopted by the silent procedure completed on 26 May 2022. The decisions include:

  • to finalise the two draft thematic documents for the Ninth Environment for Europe Ministerial Conference, (1) Greening the economy in the pan-European region: working towards sustainable infrastructure, and (2) Applying principles of circular economy to sustainable tourism;
  • to agree to the draft summary for policymakers of the document Europe’s Environment: the Seventh pan-European environmental assessment, to submit it to the Ninth Environment for Europe Ministerial Conference, and to request that the Secretariat publish the full pan-European environmental assessment in time for the Ninth Environment for Europe Ministerial Conference;
  • to finalise the progress report on the implementation of the Batumi Initiative on Green Economy and issue it as an official document for the Nicosia Conference; and
  • to finalise the report on the implementation of the Batumi Action for Cleaner Air and issue it as an official document for the Nicosia Conference.
