Award Benchmarking

Annual Benchmarking Reports are drawn-up by the Award Secretariat, presenting an analysis of the most successful applications from each year. Their aim is to support the exchange of good practice and to provide applicants with ideas. It is recommended that potential applicants for the 2017 Award consult the reports to inspire their applications.

The 2016 Benchmarking Report reveals 11 recurrent traits of good practice ("elements of success"). These have been used to structure the catalogue of good practice that forms the core of the report. They include traits that are specifically relevant to Natura 2000, including attracting new actors, involving all stakeholders, conceptual and technical innovation, looking beyond individual sites and realising socio-economic benefits. In addition, traits of general good project management are included.
