Two new IPBES Assessment Reports in July

The Intergovernmental Science-Policy Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES) will be launching two Assessment Reports on Strengthening Decisions by Including Nature’s Diverse Values and How Can People Sustainably Benefit from Wild Species? in July.

 
Nine new signatories of the Finance for Biodiversity Pledge

The Finance for Biodiversity Pledge has 98 signatories now, representing €14 trillion in assets and 19 countries, after nine new signatories made a Pledge. The next round of celebrating new signatories will be in Autumn 2022 and financial institutions can already register as a Pledge signatory.

PBAF Standard v2022 launch webinar| 14 June 2022

The launch webinar will present the new 2022 version of the PBAF Standard. A panel of experts from the TNFD, BNP Paribas and FMO will reflect on the PBAF Standard and its position in relationship with other initiatives. Speakers will also share the story around the growth of the sister-initiative of PBAF, PCAF.

European Business & Nature Summit 2022

The European Business & Nature Summit 2022 will convene in person in Brussels on 18/19 October 2022. The summit is organised by the 𝗘𝗨 𝗕𝘂𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀 @ 𝗕𝗶𝗼𝗱𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗣𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺 in partnership with the 𝗜𝗿𝗶𝘀𝗵 𝗕𝘂𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗕𝗶𝗼𝗱𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗣𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺. The summit will host keynote speakers in high-level political round tables as well as thematic practical workshops to help businesses embark on their nature positive journey. Biodiversity - Nature restoration targets

Speakers highlighted the manifest links between halting biodiversity loss and restoring nature, and tackling food security and climate change. On the upcoming EU proposal for an EU nature restoration law, Janez Potočnik, UNEP Co-Chair of the International Resource Panel, emphasized “If anybody is questioning that we need a strong nature restoration law, it’s actually questioning that humans are part of nature. With a nature restoration law, we are basically protecting ourselves”.

 
Closing session - From hope to action

The conference ended with an uplifting and forward-looking panel where circular business innovators, forward-thinking economists and nature conservation entrepreneurs enthusiastically shared their positive experience of “making the Green Deal real”. Participants were left with a clear message – that people influence change and every single one of us can help make Europe green.

 
Opening session - All change? What happens to EU Environmental Policy in times of crisis

What happens if wars, economic downturns, pandemics and food crises overshadow environmental policy? Tackling this tough question, speakers highlighted the need to keep environmental priorities high on the political agenda. Ruslan Strilets, Ukrainian Minister for the Environment, spoke of the Russian crimes against people, infrastructure and the planet, highlighting that “Nature is priceless” and a price must be put on this damage.

Sir David Attenborough delivered a special message on the LIFE Programme and Natura 2000.

 
EU B@B Platform - Webinar series on Nature Positive | May - October 2022

The EU B@B Platform invites you to its webinar series on Nature Positive. The webinars will introduce the concept of Nature Positive, present case studies by businesses and develop recommendations about the biodiversity component of the Nature Positive concept in a business context. Speakers of the first webinar on 23 May (4-5.30 pm CET) include: Johan Lammerant (Arcadis); Joshua Berger (CDC Biodiversité); Martin Lok (Capitals Coalition); Nadine McCormick (WBCSD); Stacey Baggaley (UNEP-WCMC); and Wijnand Broer (CREM).
