The Co-Chairs’ recommendations, arising from a comprehensive consultation process, underscore pivotal issues such as analysis, provision of technical support, and financial backing.
Regarding the proposed objective of compiling examples of best practices in NbS grounded in the most advanced scientific insights, the Co-Chairs proposed:
- Creating a repository of NbS good practices examples.
- Establishing a database of national policy instruments focused on nature-based solutions, useful for researchers and countries considering developing their own policies on NbS or incorporating NbS into existing policies and commitments such as NBSAPs, NDCs and other pertinent sectoral instruments.
- Analysing technical tools available to support nature-based solutions.
- Examining existing methods for measuring costs and benefits of NbS.
Concerning the information collected through the consultation process on potential bilateral and multilateral funding sources for the development and implementation of NbS, the Co-chairs recommended the production of a guide to finance sources. This guide would encompass the types of interventions funded, accessibility details, and eligibility criteria.
To bolster awareness and disseminate information effectively, the Co-Chairs proposed:
- Establishing regional or national information hubs on NbS to provide a means for sharing lessons and experiences on a range of issues, including best practice and standards, criteria, and guidelines, and how to overcome obstacles.
- Preparing an accessible guide to terms related to NbS and how they relate to each other.
Furthermore, the Co-Chairs advocated for enhanced coordination with Multilateral Environmental Agreements (MEAs) to foster a shared understanding of NbS, synergise initiatives across diverse MEAs, and ensure consistent NbS implementation.
