Capitals Coalition has published a new report titled “Improving nature’s visibility in financial accounting.” The report – a product of the collaboration of practitioners and experts across multiple disciplines – describes four methods for integrating natural and other types of capitals (e.g. human, social, financial) into financial accounting:

  • Integrating Natural Capital Accounting practices into Financial Accounting of intangible assets
  • Value added statement for nature
  • Comprehensive Accounting with Respect to Ecology (CARE) Model
  • Integrating Natural Capital into Financial Accounting

The report also contains an accompanying primer for business. The primer helps businesses determine which of the four methods would be useful and suitable for them by posing a number of practical questions.
