You are warmly invited to the Annual Political Dialogue of the Initiative for coal regions in transition, happening on 11-12 July in Velenje, Slovenia!  Here are five reasons why you should join us in person: 

1. Engage with just transition stakeholders from the EU and Western Balkans. 

2. Dive into important and timely topics during sessions on net-zero industries, energy poverty, district heating, skills development and just transition observatories; 

3. Discuss ideas and experiences on tackling energy transition challenges and profit from peer exchange during the conference as well as through informal gatherings during cocktails, dinner and coffee breaks. 

4. Discover the host region’s transformative transition practices and projects during three unique site visits, where you can learn about the operations of the Šoštanj themal power plant, the history of the Velenje Coal Mine, and the revitalisation of Lake Velenje.  

5. Explore the transition pathways of other EU regions in a special photo exhibition on repurposed mining sites at the event venue and interact with regional representatives.

A detailed practical information kit about accommodation and travel will be made available to all registered participants.  

Velenje is well connected to major European travel hubs, as several flight options are available via Ljubljana airport, where a shuttle to Velenje will wait for you. Should you need to travel with your kids, you can benefit from free childcare services during the conference! 

All confirmed participants will be approached in early June to arrange the details regarding their attendance, i.e. site visit choice, shuttle transfer from/to airport, and childcare needs.
