LiPLANET releases its first newsletter

Date:  24/08/2020

On August 2020, the first newsletter of the EU-funded project LiPLANET was released, providing updates to its wider stakeholder community on its progress.

LiPLANET is a Horizon2020 project that brings together European research lines for lithium battery production. By bridging different organisations and experts, LiPLANET aims at creating an ecosystem that can foster innovation and production, reinforcing the position of the EU in the lithium battery cell manufacturing market.

Lithium batteries are currently responsible for an important share of the overall battery market, totalling US$32 billion, and is forecasted to keep growing towards 2030. LiPLANET seeks to ensure that Europe will be a competitive actor in this market in the upcoming years, in order to support Europe's journey in becoming the first carbon-neutral continent in the most self-sufficient way possible. The project will focus on a few key actions: mapping of exsiting R&D batetry, networks, fostering knowledge exchange between European experts, creating inventories, identifying skills gaps and providing training materials.

Batteries Europe supports the work of partners involved in LiPLANET (ABEE, AIT, CEA Liten, Cidetec, EMIRI, InnoEnergy, VDI/VDE, TU Braunschweig), as both initiatives seek to streamline the battery value chain in Europe, aiming at self-sufficiency and sustainability.
