According to figures published on 31 January by Eurostat, the statistical office of the EU, the euro area seasonally-adjusted unemployment rate was 9.6% in December 2016, down from 9.7% in November 2016 and down from 10.5% in December 2015. This is the lowest rate recorded in the euro area since May 2009.
