Recently, European elections saw over 50 percent of EU citizens voting, marking the highest turnout since 1994's 56 percent. Despite this, several countries experienced a decline in voter participation compared to 2019.
The engagement of young people is key for our democratic systems. We propose as an appetizer our Focus On article "If young people care, why do they not engage more with democratic life?"

Our annual update on Structural indicators for monitoring education and training systems in Europe 2022 has just been released!
The report contains more than 20 key structural indicators on education policies in four areas: early childhood education and care, achievement in basic skills, early leaving from education and training, and higher education. You will also find an overview of major reforms since 2015 in these areas.
This year, we also unveil the brand-new set of digital skills indicators, providing an overview of key policies that support the development of digital competence at school in Europe. The selection of indicators is based on the strategic priorities outlined in the European Commission’s 2021–2027 Digital Education Action Plan.
The 2022 update of the structural indicators covers the EU Member States, as well as Albania (only for digital competence), Bosnia and Herzegovina, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Norway, Serbia and Türkiye.

On 18, 19 and 20 October 2022, EPALE, the Electronic Platform for Adult Learning in Europe, is hosting its annual online Community Conference. “Young Adults” will be one of the four themes that will characterise the debate.
What do we know about the impact of the pandemic on the mental and emotional wellbeing of young people? What has been the policy-makers’ response across Europe?
The COVID-19 pandemic and its economic and social impacts disrupted life of all groups in society. Two years into the pandemic, medium- and long-term implications are becoming increasingly clear and the impact on mental health of young people has been significant. The shift from face-to-face to online learning, the restrictions to leisure and sport activities and the partial or complete interruption of social participation have heavily disrupted interpersonal relations.
This report takes stock of the deterioration of youth mental health caused by isolation and suspension of in-person activities during the COVID-19 pandemic. It illustrates the policy measures that have been put in place by Member States to mitigate the impact of lockdowns in 2020 and 2021, building on qualitative data provided by the National Correspondents of the Youth Wiki Network.

The academic calendar shows national data on how the academic year is structured (beginning of the academic year, term times, holidays and examination periods). It also highlights differences between university and non-university study programmes. The information is available for 37 countries.
