3rd reprint in the making: Successful “Europe's Constellation” Board Game comes from Athens

A third reprint of the “Europe’s Constellation” board game is on its way. “Demand has exceeded the expectations”, confirms Dimitra Georgana from the Commission‘s Representation in Greece. The game was first launched in 2011 in the framework of the Representations’ ongoing teachers & children engagement initiative, namely the Teachers4Europe network. Its aim is to address the information deficit about the European Union.

date:  15/07/2016

Teachers4Europe is an initiative conceived for Teachers in Primary Education and organized by the European Commission Representation in Greece. Since 2015, it has been expanded to include Secondary Education. The network “has played an influential role in engaging teachers, students and the public in European issues so as to respond to the surge of euro-scepticism in Greece”, Dimitra Georgana says.

The game is based on the learning-through-play approach, associating the knowledge the children acquire with feelings of joy and pleasure. “We have just revised the game, so as to arrive at a more child-friendly version”, explains Georgana. Teachers, pupils and the public have endorsed the recent modifications of the board, the refurbishment of the design, the refinement of the questions and the change of the rules, she says.

A thousand copies of the current version were produced and distributed across the country through the Teachers4Europe network and through local and regional channels (such as EDICs, EDCs, schools, libraries). When asked if there would be a fourth edition, Dimitra Georgana was cautiously optimistic: “Based on the demand, we will consider a reprint in the future”, she said.. The cost does not seem to be prohibitive: for 1000 copies of the game, approximately 19.000 Euro were spent by the Rep. For a larger Member State, a higher print run will result in higher overall costs, but possibly a cheaper per piece price. The product was produced locally following a tender procedure involving five bidding contractors.

The constellation game is online in two age categories on Teachers Corner:
