Part of a journey to revolutionise the perception of algae as a food source, in May EU4Algae launched a Social Media Campaign to promote awareness of algae to consumers and invite them to get creative in the kitchen and share their culinary creations featuring this nutritious superfood.

Launched on Directorate-General for Maritime Affairs and Fisheries (DG MARE) and European Climate, Infrastructure and Environment Executive Agency’s (CINEA) social media platforms, the initiative intended to engage and inspire food enthusiasts by inviting them to prepare and showcase their favourite dishes incorporating algae on their own social media accounts and using #EU4Algae. Whether it's a savoury seaweed salad, a spirulina smoothie, or a nori-wrapped sushi roll, every dish shared can contribute to the movement towards sustainable eating practices.

The first step of the campaign was to film an official video in collaboration with David Jesus, owner and chef of Seiva, and Nuno Castro, owner and chef of Fava Tonka, both in Leça da Palmeira, Portugal.

The EU4Algae Social Media Consumer's Campaign marks a significant stride in reshaping the narrative around algae, not just as a sustainable food source but as an integral part of modern cuisine. By engaging food enthusiasts and culinary creators across Europe, the campaign was meant to foster a community dedicated to innovative and eco-friendly eating practices. The hope is to see a ripple effect that extends beyond social media, inspiring a broader shift towards sustainable consumption.
