Foreword

Welcome to the first edition of the newsletter from the EU Aquaculture Assistance Mechanism (AAM)!

The AAM has been set up by the European Commission to support the implementation of the ‘Strategic guidelines for a more sustainable and competitive EU aquaculture for the period 2021 to 2030’ adopted by the Commission in May 2021 (COM(2021)236 final). These guidelines set a shared and clear vision for the future of aquaculture in the EU as a sector that is competitive, resilient, and an important contributor to building sustainable food systems in accordance with the European Green Deal and the Farm to Fork Strategy. They also provide concrete recommendations and propose concrete actions on a wide range of aspects relevant to the sustainable development of aquaculture in the EU.

date:  27/02/2023

A first deliverable of the AAM was the initial release of the EU Aquaculture website in December 2022. Please visit the website at https://aquaculture.ec.europa.eu. It contains a knowledge base where you can search in a centralised repository up-to-date information relevant to the sustainable development of aquaculture. This website will also contain a section with information on policies and development of aquaculture in EU Member States. The AAM will continue developing the content of the website and we encourage you to help us in expanding and updating the information therein.

This newsletter aims at bringing to the attention of registered users a selection of the most recent content from the AAM knowledge base. It contains also relevant policy updates, information on upcoming EU funding opportunities and events related to aquaculture.

Do you have any comments, questions, or suggestions for the future content of this newsletter? Don’t hesitate to reach out to our team!
