New call for the European Energy Efficiency Financing Coalition membership (10/07/2024)

The European Commission launched the first call for financial institutions to become members of the European Energy Efficiency Financing Coalition, an initiative that brings together the European Commission, EU countries and financial institutions on energy efficiency financing. The call is open until 30 September and aims to create the first group of financial institutions joining the initiative.

Four projects have been selected following the 2023 CEF Energy call for preparatory studies for cross-border renewable energy (CB RES) projects. Just Transition Mechanism: 6 more Czech projects selected for PSLF funding (09/07/2024)

The European Commission has selected six projects for co-funding in Czechia aimed at promoting sustainable social infrastructure, improving the energy efficiency of public buildings and modernising transport infrastructure. The projects will receive EU support worth EUR 8.9 million under the Public Sector Loan Facility (PSLF) of the Just Transition Mechanism (JTM).

The Commission is launching a new opportunity to support the development of citizen-led renovations (CLR) on the ground. The CLR concept aims to empower communities and to put citizens in the driver's seat for energy renovations. This tender aims to recruit a contractor and some enabling structures (at least 10) to develop support services in their local constituencies for the creation of citizen-led renovation collectives and provide assistance for the concrete implementation of their energy renovation projects. Since 1992, the LIFE Programme has co-financed more than 6 000 projects across the EU and supported the conservation of more than 6 000 sites within the Natura 2000 network. The European Commission has increased the LIFE budget to EUR 5.4 billion for 2021 to 2027. Innovation Fund auction provides €720 million for renewable hydrogen production in Europe, under the European Hydrogen Bank (14/05/2024)

The Commission is awarding nearly €720 million to seven renewable hydrogen projects in Europe, selected through the first competitive bidding process under the European Hydrogen Bank. Together, the winning bidders plan to produce 1.58 million tonnes of renewable hydrogen over ten years, avoiding more than 10 million tonnes of CO2 emissions.

A new call for proposals has been published for energy infrastructure projects included in the list of Projects of Common Interest (PCIs) and Projects of Mutual Interest (PMIs). The call makes EUR 850 million available for studies and works for both PCIs and PMIs. As of this year, besides the usual categories (electricity, smart grids and CO2 networks), hydrogen and electrolysers, and offshore projects can also apply for funding.

Innovation Fund: new large-scale projects meet at Cleantech Conference (16/04/2024)

Representatives of 39 new, groundbreaking cleantech projects met in Brussels at the Cleantech Conference on 11 April 2024. These highly innovative projects were allocated a total amount of over EUR 3.4 billion of funding following the third large scale call under the Innovation Fund.

New project supporting photovoltaic in Finland by RENEWFM (16/04/2024)

Following the first tender of the EU renewable energy financing mechanism (RENEWFM), eight projects were awarded funding to build photovoltaic infrastructure in Finland. The project Loukkaanaro, a 20 MW ground-mounted solar park, has signed the grant agreement with CINEA. The project will be finished by 2025 and will contribute to reduce CO2 emissions by approximately 1,540 tons per year.

EU Building Stock Observatory gets a major upgrade (17/04/2024)

The EU Building Stock Observatory (BSO) has undergone its most substantial upgrade since its inception in 2016, with the new version launched last month offering an improved user interface and better data availability. With this update, the BSO, as an open-source web platform on the energy performance of buildings in the EU, has the potential to become the central data hub for Europe’s building stock.

With a budget of EUR 2.2 million, the EU is planning to fund a demonstrator project of a retrofitted fishing vessel to foster energy transition in fisheries. BUILD UP is Europe's reference portal for energy efficiency and renewable energy in buildings. It is a requirement for the European Commission from the Energy Performance of Buildings Directive. The objective is to support Member States in the implementation of the Directive, namely through information sharing and awareness raising over the main regulatory, technology and market trends in the building sector.
