The eDelivery team is happy to announce that the final release of SML 4.2 is now available. SML 4.2 is the sample implementation of an eDelivery Service Metadata Locator (SML) maintained by the European Commission. The release comes after a month of availability of the SML 4.2 RC1 in the acceptance environment of the SML Service. During this period, the team did not receive any bug reports nor detect any issues itself.
The eDelivery team is happy to announce that the support for Domibus 4.2.x was extended until the end of April 2023. It is nevertheless recommended that users upgrade to Domibus 5.0.x in order to benefit from continued support past that date.
eDelivery sample software (Domibus, SMP, SML) is not impacted by the widely publicised vulnerability allowing Arbitrary Code Execution in Apache Commons Text.
Migration of the eDelivery PKI to CommisSign-2 is ongoing. All active projects signed the updated agreement and certificates are being gradually replaced, with a target of all users having the new CommisSign-2 certificates by the end of January 2023. At the end of October 2022, the new version SML 4.2 was installed in the SML Service of the European Commission.
Between 2015 and 2020, 23 grant agreements for a total of EUR 5.16 million were signed across 17 Member States under CEF. Since 2021, with the transition to the Digital Europe Programme, direct funding for the adoption of eDelivery is no longer available, but opportunities for funding as part of wider initiatives might exist both at the national and European levels.
On 3 November 2022, news about the eDelivery Building Block was presented at the OpenPeppol Cross-Community Meeting in Brussels. OpenPeppol continues to be one of the largest users of eDelivery and, as such, is closely interested to stay abreast of the most recent developments taking place in the building block.
In December, the eDelivery team engaged closely with the Once-Only Technical System (OOTS), European Health Data Space (EHDS) and electronic Freight Transportation Information (eFTI) communities to demonstrate the added value of eDelivery for these projects, on the one hand, and to help them understand how they can adapt eDelivery to their specific needs, on the other hand. Cooperation with the three eDelivery partners will continue in the new year.
The eDelivery team is ramping up its stakeholder engagement activities. Along with the ongoing newsletter, the communication team launched a Twitter channel in order to engage with an increasingly wider community. Event videos can be found on dedicated YouTube and PeerTube channels.
eDelivery took part in the SEMIC conference along with key actors in the field of interoperability. During a dedicated pitch, the team showcased the Building Block’s role in implementing data spaces, with eDelivery being selected as the best reusable solution for data-sharing for the Once-Only Technical System and the European Health Data Space.

In this webinar, tailored to a business audience, participants will learn about value proposition of eDelivery and discover the eDelivery service offering and the advantages of adopting eDelivery. Stakeholders will have an opportunity to hear the success stories from some of the projects that adopted eDelivery.
The webinar will present the use of dynamic discovery in an eDelivery network. Dynamic discovery is based on the eDelivery SMP profile, an open technical specification for publishing service metadata within a 4-corner network, and the eDelivery BDXL profile, an open technical specification for locating service metadata within such a network.
After more than two years since its last edition, on 3 May 2023 the eDelivery team will relaunch the Interoperability Forum! The Forum represents an invaluable occasion for software developers and service providers to share their knowledge, experiences and expectations in regards to eDelivery Building Block.
The "Exchanging large files with eDelivery" webinar will guide users through the use of the Large Message Splitting & Joining profile enhancement of the eDelivery AS4 profile as available in Domibus. After eDelivery's participation in the OOTS implementers café, the team is excited to present another co-organized webinar. During the event on 26 January 2023 the eDelivery team guided participants in a series of hands-on activities to help them start building the eDelivery network for OOTS.
The ICN for eDelivery will return for its first edition of the year on 30 March 2023 (tentative). The ICN offers a platform for Member States engaged in the development of national eDelivery infrastructures supporting the adoption of eDelivery to come together and share experiences. Following requests from the community, this year’s edition will return in a hybrid format!
As we enter into the new year, the eDelivery team is excited to unveil the calendar of ongoing and future communication and stakeholder engagement activities. After record levels of engagement of the eDelivery community in 2022, many exciting events are already in the making for 2023!
