The European Commission approved the CAP Strategic Plans of the two Belgian regions, Flanders and Wallonia. Belgium is the only EU country with two CAP Strategic Plans, which brings the total number of CAP Plans to 28 for 27 EU countries.

The ‘Handbook of Territorial and Local Development Strategies’ has been launched on 18th November! It provides valuable knowledge on how to design and implement integrated strategies in areas other than urban. It aims to serve managing authorities of operational programmes, local strategy owners as well as other stakeholders involved in the process, and in particular those who are designing or revising territorial and local development strategies by means of territorial tools (Integrated Territorial Investments, Community-led Local Development, ...).

Eurostat released its annual Regional Yearbook publication package in October 2022, with specific focus on the impact of the pandemic and the Year of Youth.
The seminar in Lednice, "Community-led Local Development and Smart Villages as Innovative Tools for Effective Development of Rural Areas", brought together representatives of the European Parliament, the Committee of the Regions (CoR), the Czech EU Council presidency and the European Commission, as well as stakeholders of local development projects funded and supported by EU programmes.
Strengthening rural innovation is one of the key goals to have stronger rural areas by 2040. The analysis that backed the EU rural vision highlighted the lack of specific knowledge and data on innovation in rural contexts. The work launched by OECD on rural innovation helps to fill the gap. This first of a series of thematic and country reports explores the multi-facetted innovative practices that are already occurring in rural places, and proposes alternative indicators beyond the traditional science and technology measures to capture them.
The European Parliament's Committee on Agriculture and Rural Development adopted a draft resolution on “A Long-Term Vision for the EU's Rural Areas - Towards stronger, connected, resilient and prosperous rural areas by 2040” on 25 October. Members stressed the key role of rural areas and called for immediate EU and national measures tailored to the needs of rural areas. The draft resolution will be put to a plenary vote, on 12 December.
ODRAZ-Sustainable Community Development and the European Economic and Social Committee organised an event on 7 October in Croatia on “A long-term Vision for the EU's Rural Areas - Towards stronger, connected, resilient and prosperous rural areas”, including a panel discussion entitled "Holistic approach for sustainable and just rural/urban development". Let's now go to Northern Greece to meet the Resilient Futures winner and the Greek Red Kastoria-Kristallopigi cows. The project indeed aimed to restore this breed, after genetic resources had been eroded, which created animals that were vulnerable to disease and injury. The Digital Futures winner takes us to the Piltown/Fiddown community in Ireland. On learning that their villages were outside the National Broadband Plan funding area, they decided to build their own community-owned and future proofed "fibre to the premises" (FTTP) network.
