Fruit Reproductive Material Information System

On the basis of national variety registers of fruit genera and species, the Commission draws up an EU variety register to improve the traceability and promote the dissemination of information on the varieties that can be marketed in the EU.

The Commission's Fruit Reproductive Material Information System (FRUMATIS) is a search tool for breeders, nurserymen, experts and the general public, providing access to the data of national registers. It contains amongst others information on the denomination of the variety and its synonyms, the species the variety belongs to, and the registration validity period.

Legislation

• Council Directive 2008/90/EC of 29 September 2008 on the marketing of fruit plant propagating material and fruit plants intended for fruit production.
• Commission Implementing Directive 2014/97/EU of 15 October 2014 implementing Council Directive 2008/90/EC as regards the registration of suppliers and of varieties and the common list of varieties.

The list of fruit genera and species can be downloaded here. It includes the principal botanical name, the synonym(s) and the UPOV code.
