Wastemeter is an app created and developed by Waste Watcher International Observatory on Food and Sustainability, born from the joint work of the Department of Agricultural and Food Sciences of the University of Bologna and Last Minute Market, an academic spin off of the Alma Mater for Campagna SprecoZero.

It allows users to measure in grams the food waste following a daily diary and transform the weight into economic (Euros) and environmental (H2O and CO2) impacts. Based on the results of the questionnaire submitted at the opening of the app, Wastemeter provides educational content in the form of short videos, fact sheets and quizzes that aim to correct wrong eating habits and behaviors that lead to the production of food waste and the adoption of unhealthy diets.

Wastemeter also allows you to set personal goals to reduce food waste so that you can effectively contribute to the pursuit of the 12.3 target of the UN Agenda for Sustainable Development. Through the app you can interact with other users creating clusters of reference: friends, family, school/university class, company, public administration and comparing their behaviors that are translated into scores, because the fight against food waste is a challenge to be overcome all together.

Finally, the app allows to calculate the aggregate and average data both in terms of wasted food and in terms of economic and environmental impact that this has, to evaluate the progress of the individual, the cluster (class, company, colleagues, public administration etc.. ) and the total users.
