Thanks to the activity of the organisation Zachran jidlo (Save the Food), from mid-March 2022 over 10,000 portions of ready-to-eat meals that would otherwise have ended up in the trash have been delivered to those in need. Excess portions from the company canteens go directly to the tables of clients of shelters and emergency shelters after the end of the distribution period. More charities and canteens in Prague that meet the eligibility criteria can now register on the website

Save the Food arranges transport from the canteen via courier service DoDo to a nearby charity, which will immediately distribute the meals to its clients. To avoid unnecessary waste, portions are transported in returnable REboxes. Clients of the charities receive a nutritious and tasty meal free of charge. Despite all efforts, such as the introduction of reservation systems and smart measuring of ingredients, the company canteen runs out of 10 to 20 surplus portions every day.

Information about the Save the Lunch is now summarised on the project's website. Here you can find out how the project works, what the legal conditions for donation are, and download a more comprehensive guide How to donate ready meals?

In the future, an application will be created in cooperation with the volunteer platform Česko.Digital to simplify communication between canteens, couriers and charities. Volunteers have already joined the project and have donated hundreds of hours of their free time to the project.
