Pilot projects
Potential is one of the four initial Large Scale Pilot Projects that tested prototype EU Digital Identity Wallets in several use cases in real-life settings across Europe. Their work began
in 2023 and ended in 2025.
Co-funded by European Commission grants, Potential brought together private and public bodies from across Europe in order to achieve their goal of making digital identity secure,
interoperable, and accessible across borders.

Potential tested 6 real-life use cases to prove that EU Digital Identity Wallets can work both nationally and across borders and sectors. The use cases were centered on the security,
usability, and legal compliance made possible by digital identity.
Enabling B2B and B2G transactions. Enabling businesses to streamline processes and reduce costs by using wallets. Use your wallet to store and present tickets, like for public transportation, and check-in to hotels and other services. Keep your vehicle certification safe in your wallet, ready to present whenever it’s needed. Digital versions of credentials like passports, ready to be used. Use case specification and analysis results
Potential worked on various technical strands designed to ensure that EUDI Wallets are interoperable across-borders, and secure and privacy-enhancing. Recommendations based on extensive analysis of the EU reference architecture and regulatory frameworks, supporting developers and decision-makers across Member States. Comprehensive API definitions and integration guides, helping align business processes, sequence diagrams, and real-world scenarios for wallet implementation. National wallet prototypes were developed and tested, supported by interoperability events that strengthened cross-border collaboration and readiness. Potential delivered a proactive security and privacy risk analysis, offering actionable insights and concrete guidelines to strengthen trust in the EUDIW ecosystem. Provides an overview of all of Potential's work, including documentation of the developed solutions, best practices, and future recommendations. Potential has developed a sustainability business strategy that outlines viable business and revenue models. It presents a clear an independent path to sustainability for the EU Digital Identity Wallet ecosystem that is not reliant on EU funding. To promote their piloting work and EU Digital Identity Wallets more broadly, various commutation efforts were carried out by Potential.
