Croatia's accession as the 28th member of the EU approved
The European Parliament (EP) approved Croatia's accession as the 28th member of the EU at its plenary session in Brussels on 1 December. In his address to the European Parliament on 30 November, Commissioner Štefan Füle noted that the EP's positive vote will be a vote "for Croatia, for the region and for the EU", adding that enlargement is in the EU's strategic interest, for its security and prosperity. "A credible enlargement policy is our most effective tool to support this process of reform and transformation. That the accession of Croatia is now a reality, proves the credibility of this policy."
