This Convention is the first international legally binding instrument setting minimum standards for a range of civil, political, social, economic and cultural rights for people with disabilities around the world. It is also the first human rights convention to which the EU has become a party.

This year, the UN Committee, made up of independent experts, will review for the first time how the EU has been implementing its obligations. In June 2014, the Commission published the first report on how the EU is giving effect to its obligations under this UN Convention.

The publication of these replies is a further step in the preparation of a dialogue between the EU and the UN Committee that will take place on 27 and 28 August in Geneva.
