Croatia launches quest to find Top Seniors, as part of the European Year 2012

Marking the European Year 2012, the Delegation of the European Union to the Republic of Croatia and the Ministry of Social Welfare Policy and Youth of the Republic of Croatia have organised the competition “Young at Heart – the Award of the European Year for Active Ageing”.

All legal persons bringing together or cooperating with Croatian senior citizens are entitled to participate and can propose a candidate who, in their opinion, could be considered a role model of active ageing, a Top Senior (Naj Senior/ka).

A Top Senior in this context would be a person who plays an active role in society – e.g. organising social, cultural, educational or sporting events aiming at linking older and younger generations. The nominee may also be someone engaged in voluntary activities or programmes promoting a healthy lifestyle.

Honorary plaques/recognitions will be presented to the winners by the Ministry of Social Welfare Policy and EU Delegation at the ceremony taking place on the International Day of Older Persons (1 October 2012). The awards also include financing of a “Generational Gathering” (a dance, party, one-day trip, sporting or cultural event) with the members of the winning organisation.

Applications must be submitted by 10 September. More information about the requirements and procedure to participate can be checked here
