Summer 2010: one in three children will not go on holidays. The Secours Populaire Français in cooperation with the European Social Action Network (ESAN) is organising a holiday in France for children from disadvantaged backgrounds.

September, back to school, and with it goes the question: What did you do this summer? The Suns of Europe Initiative aims to give all children an exciting story to tell.

The initiative of the Secours Populaire Français, which has existed for 30 years, will give 1500 children experiencing poverty the opportunity to go on holiday. The children coming from all over Europe will be hosted by volunteers from the Secours Populaire and will spend a few days somewhere in France and a day in Paris. It will be an opportunity for them to break out of isolation, meet children from different countries and share a good moment.

On the 19th of August on the ‘Journée des oubliés des vacances’ (the Day for those who won’t go on holiday) around 40,000  French children from the disadvantaged families will spend the day in Paris doing all sorts of activities and all meet on the Champ de Mars.

In the framework of this event, a Secours Populaire page has been created on Facebook. If you have an account, you can become a fan of the page and be informed about all the activities planned on this day.
