World Humanitarian Day 2014: Humanitarians are at risk!

Commissioner Kristalina Georgieva pays tribute to the people who risk their lives everyday as their work continues to grow more dangerous. The nature of conflict is changing and over 51 million people were forced to flee in 2013. At the same time, 454 humanitarians were killed, kidnapped or injured in the same year.
This World Humanitarian Day, join with the European Union as it honours the work humanitarians are undertaking to help those in need in an ever more riskier environment.

Commissioner Georgieva visits the Philippines to see recovery after Haiyan

Commissioner Georgieva emphasised preparedness for such major disasters and congratulated the resilience of people affected by Typhoon Haiyan.

Commissioner Georgieva seeing EU response in action in Bosnia and Herzegovina

Commissioner Georgieva visited the EU relief workers, including members of Belgium's BFast team, Germany's THW and many others, and people affected directly in this crisis. She thanked the teams for their efforts and listened to people who had lost livelihoods and homes in the area.

Commissioner Georgieva visits flood stricken Serbia

Following devastating floods in May 2014, Commissioner Georgieva visited Serbia to see the impact of the deluge herself.

She met with Serbian Prime Minister Aleksandar Vucic and addressed the press in a press conference.

Serbia and Bosnia and Herzegovina both placed calls for assistance to the EU's Civil Protection Mechanism on 16 May and within hours the EU teams we're providing support.
