Twentieth EQAVET Peer Review in Slovenia National system of support to VET schools in their internal QA

The twentieth EQAVET Peer Review was hosted in Ljubljana, Slovenia, by the Institute of the Republic of Slovenia for VET (Center RS za poklicno izobraževanje – CPI) on 1-2 June 2023.

Seven experts from six Member States - Austria, Croatia, Germany, Greece, Ireland, and the Netherlands - participated as peers.

In Slovenia, legislation on VET requires providers to establish internal QA systems, which must adhere to specific standards while allowing flexibility to adapt the design to individual schools’ needs. A vast amount of information and tools is available to VET providers that can serve as a foundation for their internal QA system. The aim of the Peer Review was to identify methods to support schools in conducting evaluations that are beneficial internally and promote greater comparability at a national level.

Presentations from the host provided a comprehensive overview of the tools available for schools and the current state-of-play of their internal QA systems. National experts from the Ministry of Education, the Institute of the Republic of Slovenia for VET, and representatives from schools were among those who presented.

The host identified the key points in the QA cycle where feedback based on other national experiences could support the further development of the national framework for QA in VET.

Discussions welcomed long-term strategic goals, the importance of common terminology, and how to encourage greater participation in internal QA systems by putting more emphasis on its benefits to teachers, providers, and administration.

Read the flash report summarising the main outcomes of the discussion.

A report with more detailed feedback from the peer reviewers will be shared with the host country.
