Platform work is understood as all labour provided through, on, or mediated by online platforms in a wide range of sectors.

The main challenges identified in the study include employment status, information available to the workers about their working conditions, dispute resolution, collective rights and non-discrimination.

The study details the variety of policy responses in the Member States and explores how existing EU law helps to address the challenges identified.

The Commission will hold a conference in Brussels on platform work in September 2020 and, as mentioned in the industrial strategy, the Commission will propose an initiative to improve the working conditions of people working in the platform economy.
