From apprentice to world champion: the success story of Dylan Werner

In the realm of hospitality and tourism, apprenticeships can offer aspiring professionals a unique blend of theoretical knowledge and practical experience. Dylan Werner, a young apprentice, exemplifies the transformative power of such a journey.

Dylan's story begins at the age of 15, when he obtained his vocational diploma in marketing and catering services, which opened doors to prestigious establishments, both in France and abroad. With a thirst for knowledge, he continued his education in hotel management, striving to develop his managerial knowledge.

Currently, in the final year of a master's degree apprenticeship at the Cheval Blanc hotel in Paris, Dylan's journey has been marked by remarkable achievements. Working at the renowned three-Michelin-starred restaurant Plénitude, he not only assists in administrative tasks but also contributes to delivering unique fine-dining experiences, unveiling the vision of Chef Arnaud Donckele.

Reflecting on his journey, Dylan shares: 'Thanks to my apprenticeship, I've learned perseverance and rigour, and developed a culture of excellence.' The young apprentice also highlights the importance of adaptability and dedication, virtues instilled throughout the course of his apprenticeship.

Dylan has also participated in competitions where he garnered numerous awards, notably the title of Best Apprentice in France and then being the first French national to win the WorldSkills Olympics. He is deeply committed to advocating for apprenticeships and artisanal trades. As President of the Best Apprentices in France and Ambassador for WorldSkills France, he endeavours to combat prevailing stereotypes and promote the attractiveness of vocational education and training as a valuable choice. 'It's essential to show the public that the world of apprenticeships and manual occupations is a path of excellence and hard work that deserves to be better known and, most importantly, celebrated,' he emphasises.

As Dylan looks ahead, he strongly recommends the transformative potential of apprenticeships, urging others to consider this pathway to professional fulfilment. 'If you have a passion, and you want to transform that passion into a fulfilling career, consider work-based learning' he advises. 'It's not just about acquiring theoretical knowledge; it's about gaining practical experience, building a strong foundation, and setting yourself up for success in the real world.'
