Commission proposes to protect workers better from cancer-causing chemicals

Commission proposes €1.8 million from Globalisation Fund to Belgium
The European Commission has proposed to provide Belgium with €1.8 million from the European Globalisation Adjustment Fund (EGF) to help 488 workers made redundant by several manufacturers of construction machinery in the province of Hainaut (Wallonia, Belgium).

Part-time work: A divided Europe
An increasing number of Europeans are working part-time. This can be a positive development if it means that people can choose more freely the balance between work and other pursuits – and between income and leisure – or if it brings employment opportunities to people who were previously excluded from the labour market: such as mothers, older workers, and students.

Commission adopts proposal by social partners to improve the working conditions in the fishing sector
Today, following an agreement by social partners on working conditions in the fishing sector, the European Commission is translating the agreement into a legal proposal for a Directive. In 2013, the EU social partners in the fishing sector reached an agreement, which proposed to align EU law with the 2007 "Work in Fishing" Convention of the International Labour Organisation (ILO).
