European Commission gives prizes for outstanding contributions to the European Year 2012

Area-based policies in urban areas: how to promote good living conditions for children and youth (Norway)
Based on two schemes in place in Norway, this Peer Review is an opportunity to explore area-based policies promoting good living conditions for young people in deprived areas. The problems in these urban areas are to a large extent related to socio-economic factors; therefore most measures target the whole population while special efforts are aimed directly at residents with an immigrant background. Combatting poor standards of living amongst children and youth, and promoting social mobility in urban areas with poor living conditions is crucial for breaking the transmission of disadvantage across generations and diminishing the likelihood of social exclusion in the future.

Mario Galea hands out the Senior of the Year Award 2012 in Malta

The TechnolAGE project has just published the “Study on business and financing models related to ICT for ageing well”, which identifies and analyses the business and financing models of 20 European best practices of Information & Communication Technologies (ICT) that have a high proven relevance for the ageing population.

The closing ceremony of the European Year 2012 in Austria invites to continue building on active ageing awareness
"Active ageing means more than just working longer”, remarked Rudolf Hundstorfer, Federal Minister for Labour, Social Affairs and Consumer Protection, at the closing ceremony of the European Year 2012 in Austria. Held on 7 November at the Odeon Theatre in Vienna, the event was attended by 200 guests, who expressed their hope that the promotion of projects and policies related to active ageing will continue far beyond this year.
