The majority of the unemployed in the EU do not receive unemployment benefits
In all EU countries, social security systems are in place to provide a safety net to those who lose their jobs. Much has been said about the generosity of unemployment benefits that may entice workers to stay at home rather than to look for a job, or about the need to make sure that the unemployed receiving benefits also meet obligations to actually look for a job or get training.

Performance of the EU Employment and Social Innovation (EaSI) programme in 2014
2014 was the first implementation year of the European Union Programme for Employment and Social Innovation (EaSI). To ensure a high visibility and to respond to accountability needs, a report has been published on the performance of the EaSI programme, which consists of three axes: the Progress, EURES, and Microfinance and Social Entrepreneurship axis.

At the 6th G20 Labour and Employment Ministers' meeting in Ankara, Turkey, on 3-4 September, Marianne Thyssen, Commissioner for Employment, Social Affairs, Labour Mobility and Skills, welcomed the agreement to tackle unemployment of youth most at risk of never having a job.
