Harvard study supports that physical activity of older people decreases risk of cardiovascular disease
A study that fills the knowledge gap of the relationship between physical activity and cardiovascular disease amongst the elderly was presented recently at the American Heart Association’s EPI | NPAM 2012 conference in San Diego by a group of international researchers working at the Harvard School of Public Health.

Intergenerational active walking in Sarajevo to celebrate the European Year 2012
The European Year for Active Ageing and Solidarity between Generations goes beyond its participating countries (27 EU Member States, Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway). Many other nations worldwide are supporting this EU initiative, organising activities throughout 2012 in order to raise awareness of the contribution that older people make to society.

Peer Review in Riga on 'Activation measures in times of crisis: the role of public works'
The Ministry of Welfare of the Republic of Latvia, in collaboration with the State Employment Service, hosted a Peer Review in Riga that brought together ministry officials and independent experts from twelve countries (Belgium, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Greece, Finland, Hungary, Ireland, the Netherlands, Norway, Portugal and Romania) as well as representatives from DG Employment, Social Affairs and Inclusion at the European Commission and the World Bank.
