Closing ceremony of the first European Vocational Skills Week
The closing ceremony of the first European Vocational Skills Week on Friday, 9 December 2016 gathered some 600 participants from Vocational Education and Training, business, social partners, chambers of commerce, civil society, think tanks, research bodies and public authorities. More than 900 activities and events registered as part of the Week took place between September and December all over Europe.

Launch of scoreboards monitoring how students and learners are encouraged to go abroad
The Commission launched its first learning mobility scoreboards for initial vocational education and training (IVET) and higher education (HE) today on the occasion of the European Vocational Skills Week.

Tri-partite opinion on quality and effective apprenticeships and work-based learning
On 2 December 2016, the tri-partite Advisory Committee on Vocational Training (ACVT) adopted unanimously an Opinion on a Shared Vision on Quality and Effective Apprenticeships and Work-based Learning. The opinion represents an important call from governments, trade unions and employers' organisations from EU Member States and partner countries to further strengthen efforts to increase quality and effectiveness of apprenticeships and work-based learning.

Commission organises first European Vocational Skills Week
From 5 to 9 December 2016, the European Commission is organising a first European Vocational Skills Week to inspire people to discover, use and improve their talents and abilities through vocational training. It is one of the ten key actions proposed by the Commission under the New Skills Agenda for Europe, presented in June this year.

European Commission rewards British city Chester for enhancing accessibility in its city life
The European Commission today announced the British city of Chester as the winner of the Access City Award. Chester was chosen out of 43 cities from 21 EU countries, because of its inclusive measures for people with a disability in different sectors, in particular the tourism sector.

Commission proposes €1.8 million from Globalisation Fund to help 800 Dutch former retail workers
Today the European Commission made a proposal to allocate €1.8 million from the European Globalisation Adjustment Fund (EGF) to the Dutch regions of Drenthe and Overijssel. This would support 800 former retail workers in finding new jobs

Commission proposes 856,800 euros from Globalisation Fund to help former car workers in Spain
The European Commission has proposed to provide Spain with €856,800 from the European Globalisation Adjustment Fund (EGF) to help 250 former car workers in the Spanish community Comunidad Valenciana (Spain) to find new jobs.
