The European Year Ambassadors, honoured at the closing ceremony of the EY2012 in Latvia
The Latvian closing event of the European Year of Active Ageing and Solidarity between Generations 2012 took place on December 12th in Riga. More than 100 participants attended the ceremony, including representatives of the Welfare Ministry, senior NGOs, authorities, journalists and member of institutions involved in the EY2012.

The National Closing Conference of the European Year 2012 in Slovakia invites to debate about intergenerational dialogue
The National Closing Conference of the European Year 2012 in Slovakia took place in Bratislava on December 14th under the title “Human Rights through Intergenerational Dialogue”. Jointly organised by the Government Office of the Slovak Republic and the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs, the conference invited participants to debate about solidarity and dialogue between generations.

Finland celebrates the end of a successful and active European Year 2012
Around 100 people gathered at the European Commission Representation in Helsinki on December 12th to celebrate the National Closing Event of the European Year in Finland. Organised by the Finnish Institute of Occupational Health, the event was hosted by the national Coordinator of the EY2012, Professor Anneli Leppanen, and the Secretary of the Year, Marjo Wallin.

The Czech Republic closes the European Year 2012 with a call to continue inspiring seniors to live actively
It is essential to continue the projects launched this year in the Czech Republic in order to eliminate stereotypes about ageing and to keep on inspiring seniors to live actively. Seniorforce Day event in France advocates to "Do it together" for an intergenerational society
In an effort to propose ways in which young and older people might work together to respectively find their place in society and feel less isolated from it, the conference organised by France Bénévolat in Paris on 4 December 2012 encouraged participants to look at age from a new perspective, as well as recognise seniors as full-fledged actors of "cohesion", instead of "costs" to society.

The German Federal Association of Senior Citizens' Organisations (BAGSO) and the Research Association for Gerontology at the University of Technology Dortmunt remarked the positive outcome of the European Year for Active Ageing and Solidarity between Generations 2012 during the National Closing Ceremony of the Year in Germany, which was held on December 10th in Berlin.

AGE Platform calls authorities to tackle the increasing risk of poverty and social exclusion among older people in Europe
The publication “Older People also suffer because of the crisis” was presented by AGE Platform Europe at the Second Annual Convention of the Platform against Poverty and Social Exclusion, which took place on 5-7 December in Brussels hosted by the European Commission in partnership with the Cyprus Presidency.
