Cohesion policy 2007-2013: Estonia has plan and priorities agreed with EU Commission
Regional policy Commissioner Danuta Hübner and Employment and Social Affairs Commissioner Vladimír Špidla congratulated the Estonian authorities for reaching agreement with the European Commission on the national plan and priorities for Cohesion policy 2007-2013. In their National Strategic Reference Framework (NSRF) the Estonian authorities describe how they are going to invest EU funding of € 3.4 billion that they will receive over seven years to deliver growth and jobs to their country.

In their National Strategic Reference Framework (NSRF), the United Kingdom authorities describe how they plan to invest € 9.9 billion over seven years in line with the Lisbon Strategy for growth and jobs.

Commission acts to bridge gender pay gap
Across the EU economy, women continue to earn an average of 15% less than men, according to the European Commission. A new report released today sets out ways the EU can bridge the gap – which has barely changed over the past decade. The gender pay gap represents the difference between average hourly pay for women and men before tax across the economy as a whole. It reflects ongoing discrimination and inequality in the labour market which, in practice, mainly affects women.

EUtube spreads the message "For Diversity. Against Discrimination."
The European Commission's 'For Diversity. Against Discrimination.' campaign has made its début on EUtube – the EU's dedicated channel on popular video-sharing website YouTube – with an upbeat video clip on diversity. The 30-second video is part of the five-year pan-European information campaign on combating discrimination on the grounds of racial or ethnic origin, religion or belief, age, disability and sexual orientation.

Italy has agreed the priorities of its cohesion investment strategy with the European Commission for 2007-2013. In their National Strategic Reference Framework (NSRF), the Italian authorities describe how they plan to invest EU funding of € 28.8 billion over seven years in line with the Lisbon Strategy for Growth and Jobs.

Commission launches public consultation on new anti-discrimination measures
The European Commission has today launched an online consultation on combating discrimination in the Member States and at EU level. The public consultation will help the Commission plan new measures to tackle discrimination on the basis of gender, religion, belief, disability, age or sexual orientation 0c06 in areas beyond the job market. It comes as the European Year of Equal Opportunities for All – which aims to raise people's awareness of their rights to equal treatment and promote a broad debate on the benefits of diversity to society – enters full swing.
